Looking for an MSc student!

In collaboration with Dr. Mark Hipfner (Environment Climate Change Canada), I am looking for an MSc student interested in understanding how gull movement is associated with the spawning events of forage fish. The student would be completing an Oceans and Fisheries MSc. Deadline for application: November 15, 2024. For details, see: msc_ubc_eccc_20241029.pdf

When I search for students, I post advertisements on this page, social media, and on websites such as the IOF join us. Generally, I can supervise students through the Department of Statistics (see www.stat.ubc.ca/graduate for more information) and through the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (see www.oceans.ubc.ca/graduate-program). I expect all of my students to have an interest in ecology, and experience in statistics and with coding. My students should be willing to learn about the ecology of the animal they study as well as new and advanced statistical skills. I consider scientific writing a crucial aspect of science, I expect students to write often and well.
